Dr. Tanveer Mir

Tanveer Mir MD, MACP, Graduated with Honors from the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, India. She trained at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Internal Medicine. After completing her training in Internal Medicine, she joined Nassau University Medical Center as a Chief Resident and completed ten years of service as Associate Program Director and Division Chief of Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Mir is currently the Associate Chief Geriatrics & Palliative Medicine and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Hofstra-NSLIJHS school of Medicine. She has served as the Senior Medical Director of Hospice Care Network (affiliated with NSLIJHS) for three years. Dr. Mir has been working at the North shore Long Island Jewish Health system for over ten years.

Dr. Mir is a Master of the American College of Physicians (ACP, 2010) and is currently a member of the Board of Regents, and Chairperson of the International Council of the ACP. She is the recipient of many awards that include Laureate Award of the New York Chapter of ACP, the George Frank humanitarian award at Hospice Care Network (2009). She has also received multiple teaching awards. Dr. Mir is a speaker at many National and International Meetings.

Dr. Mir directs the in-patient Palliative service at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She is a life member of Indo-American Cancer Association and conducts voluntary clinic and pain management sessions over a few days, at least annually at the Palliative Care Center in Kashmir, India that was established through a grant from Indo-American Cancer Center (IACA 2008). She was also the Course-Director of the first EPEC (Education of Physicians in End-Of-Life Care) in Kashmir, India in 2009. She has also participated in the Cancer in Developing Countries Conferences as a speaker in Palliative topics in 2010 and 2012.

Tanveer Mir is married to Dr. Parvez Mir, and they live in Cold Spring Harbor , New York. They have three children, Tanya Sophia Mir who is a third year Law student at Hofstra University in New York, Natasha Mariam Mir who graduated from Vassar and is now completing her second year at Teach For America in Mississippi Delta and Nabil Assad Mir who is a Senior at NYU-Steinhardt.
