Manjit Bains, MD

Dr. Manjit Singh Bains came to the United States in 1964 after doing M.B., B.S. from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He did his residency training at Rochester General Hospital and a Fellowship in Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Cornell University Medical Center. He has stayed on the staff at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center since completing his fellowship in 1972. He is an Attending Surgeon in the Thoracic Service, Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and a Professor of Surgery at Cornell University Medical College.

Dr. Bains has developed several techniques in operative treatment of cancer involving esophagus, chest wall, mediastinal tumors and major vessels. He is considered by many as a doctor’s doctor and has been involved in the treatment of numerous VIPs from India and around the world. He is a member of almost two dozen professional societies including Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association of Thoracic Surgery, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and has published extensively with over 260 publications. He is an Honorary Member of the Indian Surgical Association.

Dr. Bains has been actively involved in teaching Oncologic and Thoracic Surgeons in the United States and India and has been a frequent honored speaker at the Indian Society of Oncology, Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Association of Cardiovascular Surgeons and Society of Thoracic Surgery of South America. He has received numerous awards for his professional and humanitarian work and has been awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular Surgeons and Association of Surgeons of India. He was featured on Z TV for NR Eyes as an outstanding NRI.
